The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that the 22nd Annual Mission Community Health Fair is set to be held on January 15th at the Sharyland High School gymnasium. This wonderful event invites residents of the Greater Mission Area to come learn about general health and wellness.
The community health fair is presented by the Mission Regional Medical Center and made possible by the support of our sponsors including Mission CISD and The Monitor. The event will run from 7:30 AM till 12 PM (noon) and will feature a bevy of exhibitors and vendors who will be providing free services while educating the public. The event is geared towards increasing awareness within the local community about healthy living, and exhibitors will be discussing a number of topics including: dental and oral health, skin care and sunscreen, child safety, nutritional information, first aid and emergency preparedness, heart health, mental health, importance of physical activity, substance abuse information, cancer and preventative exam schedules, stress information, general information about women’s and men’s health, accident prevention, proper use of safety belts, child safety demonstrations, and numerous other topics.
Alongside this opportunity for residents to learn about the types of healthcare services that are available to them in the local community, there will also be free screenings for low-income individuals and families.
In fact, the Mission Regional Medical Center laboratory team will be providing master blood tests for the first 500 people. Free screenings will include checking: cholesterol, blood pressure, vision, body mass index, and much more. The simple health screenings provided by the laboratory team will help to provide both positive health feedback and identify at risk individuals.
The Annual Mission Community Health Fair is a tremendous event requiring a real community effort that provides truly meaningful services to a population that may not otherwise have the access to the knowledge they need to properly improve their lifestyle. Hundreds of volunteers and professional medical personnel will be donating their time and expertise in order to effectively manage booths and run screening tests.
The goal of each and everyone of these volunteers and exhibitors is to help others in the community live the healthiest lives possible. By inspiring healthy lifestyle changes, the community improves for everyone.
Exhibitor/vendor booths are still available and special rates will apply for members. There is a $500 fee for non-members of the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce. There are also discounted rates for non-profit organizations.
Doctors, nurses, community organizers, nutritionists, peer educators, medical personnel, and community members all love to attend this event because:
- It is an excellent way to engage with an underserved community in caring for its health.
- It allows medical professionals and community organizations to engage with patients in the community with which they self-identify.
- It’s a great opportunity to answer questions that might otherwise go unheard.
- It allows the local medical community to correct misconceptions about health care.
- It can help a practice to grow.
- The Annual Mission Community Health Fair is just outright fun!
