This year, Small Business Saturday set a record. An estimated 112 MILLION shoppers supported community businesses. This one day shopping event, started by American Express in 2010, celebrates and supports small businesses. Even our President had something to say about the import role that small businesses plays in our communities. He’s also made it a point to shop local each year on Small Business Saturday.

“The fact is, small businesses represent what is best about our country. They not only employ millions of workers, but they also provide opportunity to those who might have historically gone without it, including women, minorities, and immigrants. Small Business Saturday is a celebration of this diversity and the ways each of us—no matter who we are or where we come from—can help write America’s narrative and chart our country’s course.” – Barak Obama

The reality is, however, shopping small is important every day, not just on Small Business Saturday. Online retailer continue to grow and dominate the market. We all love the convenience and when they offer free shipping you may think it’s the same as buying here. That is not the case. Buying local keeps more money in our economy. Here are some things to keep in mind as you do your holiday shopping this season.

The Mission Chamber of commerce is proud to support the small business community in Mission Texas. We love to see our businesses grow and prosper. We also love to find new ways to connect Mission businesses with new customers. GoMission.com has been a great tool to generate retail excitement. After all, who doesn’t want to support local businesses, boost our local economy AND get a great deal?
